Welcome to “Multiscale Bioimaging” (MBExC) Cluster of Excellence, Göttingen

With changing posters here at Wilhelmsplatz, we would like to introduce you to the MBExC, its incredibly amazing scientists and their joint research on heart and brain.

Hertha Sponer College – education of a new generation of future research leaders

The Hertha Sponer College brings together aspiring early career researchers from the natural sciences and medicine with its unique method-based training concept. We offer opportunities to connect young scientists at all career levels with each other and with renowned experts from clinics and research, and we support the development of an independent career in research. With today’s knowledge, experience and enthusiasm we open new horizons for the science of tomorrow.

Dr. Maria-Patapia Zafeiriou, Application Specialist “Stem Cells and Organoids”

“Since 2019, I am supporting research at MBExC by providing scientific expertise on advanced technologies in stem cells and tissue engineering. We have developed novel human stem cell-based organoids that allow the interaction of brain neurons, cardiac neurons and cardiac muscle cells. With this model we study the functional interfaces of electrically excitable cells of the brain and the heart, and their communication in health and disease. Using state-of-the-art optical imaging techniques and this innovative tissue engineering technology, we can advance the development of therapeutic strategies to treat diseases of the heart, brain, or both.”
